Acid-base balance is the pH of your blood, which is measured on a scale between 0 and 14. A pH of 7 is considered neutral; lower than 7 means you’re acidic, and higher than 7 means you’re alkaline. Acidosis occurs when the blood becomes too acidic (pH less than 7), whereas alkalosis occurs when it becomes too alkaline (pH greater than 7). Imbalances in acid-base balance can be caused by any number of factors—from eating too much meat to having kidney failure—but they can be treated by taking certain medications or changing your diet. If you have an imbalance, talk to your doctor about treatment options that will help keep your body’s systems working properly again!
